Curriculum
We cater for real life learning by encouraging our students to engage in activities that will be useful and meaningful to them as they move into society. All students have tailored Individual Learning Plans where goals are developed by teachers based on assessments, observations and students learning.
Literacy is conducted in a two hour block each morning. This block has a main focus of reading and writing with the inclusion of speaking and listening.
Each day we allocate 30 minutes of explicit spelling. We are currently using the Words Their Way program to assist students in building their knowledge in all areas of spelling.
Throughout our one hour mathematics block we strive to use many ‘hands on’ activities to engage the students in lessons. We incorporate the use of a range of digital technology to stimulate students interests and excite the student’s ideas of mathematics.
In the afternoon we run 1 hour and 30 minute session as ‘Integrated Studies’. Throughout this time we cover a range of areas including Science, Geography, Sport, Visual Arts, Technology, Civics and Citizenship.
Amphitheatre Primary School is also lucky enough to be involved in a weekly Japanese program via video conferencing. The students also have the opportunity to borrow a range of texts from the visiting M.A.R.C Van each fortnight. We are also connected with the Pyrenees Cluster where students are offered opportunities to participant in our Full Steam Ahead days which are a real highlight for the students. During these times students are able to socialise and form friendships with other students from small schools, they also engage in fascinating learning opportunities including Art, Science, Music and Physical Education.
We promote that students are reading each evening and logging their reading in their diaries along with promoting rich discussions about the text. Please encourage students to be filling out their diary each evening as this promotes a great purpose for real life writing opportunities.
